Never had much respect for a habitual poacher especially one that's doing it for the heads and the joy of killing. Worse type of trophy worship there is. Guy had no respect for property rights, game laws, the animals he killed in large numbers just for the racks or ethics of hunting. I'm guessing some people that think he's sone kind of dark ops/special forces/guerilla warfare/ survivalist have never been camping for a week before? What did the dude ever do that was admirable, something you want ur kids to do or be when they grow up? Doesn't take much of an excuse for people to forget the importance of morals and values but maybe those things aren't important to some. Ol Charlie could rattle in every buck in Kansas right to his back porch if he felt so inclined… so you better watch it lol

Yes Sir, I like your posts and certainly respect your take on things. I have a lot of respect for you.
Morals and values went out the door in Texas 40 years ago when WTD hunting became a pay to play game. It's the same old BS, they try to divide us and keep us arguing and bickering with the folks in our own state of fortune rather than realizing that their is someone up the higher social ladder that is laughing at us bicker and fight with one another. Started in Texas, and has now moved into your neck of the woods and even into the Midwest.
One side, the Wildlife Management/State Agency side is 100% against the private landowner rights/animal husbandry side. The wildlife side says that they have to protect the resource of WTD; as they are a game animal and it is their duty. The animal husbandry/deer breeder side says, no......Its a property rights issue and I should own the deer and consider them livestock. Neither of them can do much in legislature without the public's support so they bicker, send things to sign, etc. etc.
All the while, when they are totally the same thing. They are the rich landowners and neither of the sides will allow you to hunt unless it is for publicity; OR unless one can pay ALOT of $ for "access". Whole thing is a racket. Makes me sick. Mind you, many of these places are thousands and 10 thousands of acres and have more deer to kill than anyone one of them can eat.
As far as Beaty goes, he was a real BA. He snuck into the biggest, baddest, ranches in Texas before all this happened; places, that had their own private enforcement. He was killing trophies and rattling in bucks, snort wheezing, long before there was ever pay to play across the state. Would I want my daughter to marry him; certainly not. Was he morally and ethically correct; certainly not. But that don't negate the fact that he was a hunting SOB. He wasnt a hunting SOB...he was a violating SOB, and there is a big difference. Period.

Dang! I missed this post the other day.
My 1st take on this poacher is he would have been too easy to catch. The dumba** built a camp and even a fire on the property. Me and one or 2 other hand-picked Georgia GWs would've had him on the ground before he hung his 3rd buck head on that camp shelter.
These dope growers and moonshiners I've sat on down here in these swamps make that guy look like an ignorant wimp.

Once I cut his sign....he was as good as caught. That campsite would've made it too easy. I bet that's how they ended up catching him.
It's all about dedication to the task at hand. As all GWs are, I was paid to catch 'em. I took it serious, especially with those that thought they couldn't be caught. It was sorta fun, too.
One on one it would've been more difficult and potentially dangerous, but could've been done.
I didn't mind long hours, all night, all day. Myself and my work unit worked shifts to catch several outlaws that had never been caught. Shift change was slip in and slip out. If someone is determined enough they can catch anyone doing anything. Really not that difficult for a few GWs that dont mind walking long distances, being cold, hot, wet, skeeter bit, tired, etc to grab an outlaw that is as careless as that guy seemed to be (based on those pics.) Anyone that makes camp has set a pattern. Patterns make it too easy.
The outlaws that don't leave any sign or pattern are harder to catch. Many times the GW knows who they're after. I've caught a couple because I learned they were skinning the illegally-taken deer at their residence or a hunt camp. I just hid there and waited until they came home at 3AM or 4 AM, hung the buck up and started skinning....then I introduced myself from the edge of their yard.

Not sure Savell. I was down there a couple weeks ago and the game wardens made us a low country boil.
Those fellas can cook and I’m fairly certain a couple were part bloodhound.
Stop over cooking your meat! It isn’t gamey, it’s over cooked!
Gordon Ramsey, maybe…

….. well ranch security and game wardens in that area must have been garbage…he lived in that ranch for a month one year I believe 400 thousand acres of TX brush country would've presented a needle in a haystack challenge, but him being there for a year or more tells me there wasn't a full fledged effort to catch him. The same places he was killing those bucks (feeders and fields) means there were roads to those areas. Beaty appeared to be using a bow/arrow. That also made it more difficult. He, for sure, wouldn't stand a chance today with cameras and thermal optics....even if had the thermal optics too.
