It can sure happen fast. Yesterday I was modifying some #3 DLS with base plates, jaw laminations, all the normal stuff. I reached a good stopping point for lunch and walked by my pile of traps that need work. On top off the pile sat a Bridger Brawn with the rubber removed. I keep ignoring it but yesterday thought I should set it and determine if I want to do some lamination work on it. It’s the only Brawn I have. I won it several years ago in an NTA raffle.

I grabbed my setters and broke it open. As I was moving my knee down to hold the setter, it slipped off and the lever hit my right index finger full force. It ripped the flesh from just in front of the first joint up to the fingertip, breaking the flesh away on the left side of the finger.

Initially the ER doc was thinking I’d need to see a hand surgeon but X-rays showed not injury to the bone and conferring with the surgeon they determined he could take care of it there. He stitched me back together. Three internal stitches and 14 external.

Fortunately I’m correctly (left) handed.

Ouch. I can relate. I got my 1st Jake Traps earlier this year and went to the garage to set one quick before I went to bed. I am not sure how or why the setter slipped but the next thing I knew I had my thumb in the trap in the side of the jaws where they close together tight. The worst part of this whole thing was having to wake my wife up at 10:15 at night to haul me to the ER 30 miles away.

Yowzer!!
I've split open a few in my life and the worst part is the stitched finger being useless for a few weeks.

I'm also LEFT handed and in my RIGHT mind!

That picture was taken right after the procedure. The pink has returned to my fingertips.

Ouch! I got clumsy a couple weeks ago and scalded my left hand with hot bacon grease. No fun at all.

All my trap accidents have happened in the cellar. So far none in the field, but I know I am due. I try to be safe but........jk

I second on the OUCH. No picking anything with that finger for a few weeks. I have had several banged up fingers in the past. Some good pinches with a few traps and others with a hammer hit. Nothing like that. I hope it heals up good and without any restrictions in movement.

You're left-handed, seems like you could have stitched it up yourself.. Pansy! laugh

You asked for it. The stitches go around underneath and the nail is stitched on to protect the nail bed.

a glover needle and fishing line is all it takes. Hands heal fast unless you have diabetes.

WD was to remove the gunk from the band-aid. I underestimated the damage initially.
Healed well for something that had become infected by the time I decided to stitch it. The finger looked like a khachapuri when bent, with the skin apart and all the yellow pus and white tendons showing ))

Surprisingly, it really doesn’t hurt much at all. I’m not taking any pain meds. If I bump it, I feel it for sure but really no pain.
