Figured I’d ask this on the wilderness forum since many of you have experience with argos. What would you consider more practical, user friendly, reliable, comfortable etc.? Looking for your pros and cons!

I have an ATV with tracks. I really like them in the snow a person doesn't have a sharp turning radius though. I know nothing about the Argo but they can at least float.

Argo’s require a lot of maintenance or repairs per hours ridden compared to most anything else

I was wondering about that. They seem like a bunch of off the shelf parts from different manufacturers rather than something engineered specifically for that purpose like an ATV company. Maybe that makes parts easier to find through cross referencing at NAPA..

Just not the greatest design. Great overall idea for a truly go anywhere rig, being able to run on snow, dirt, and water. Just not the best execution of that idea

Argos need tons of maintenance when the owner didn't look after it. We had a Bigfoot 6x6 from new and had no problems. Sold it after 4 years as we relocated our bare baits. Grease it, oil the chains, oil change.
They're slow, 6x6 is rough and too small. 8x8 is smoother, tracks are a must for me. We did have 3 people jammed inside the 6x6 and a small 180lb bear on the hood and crossed a beaver pond once. That was a bit dicey but we never got wet....lol.
Might buy a good used one with a cab & tracks with some saved up fur money. Should be able to get a good Conquest for $10000ish. The conquest is heavier built and made for tracks, not sure what the new name for them is.
I don't need one, but if I had one I could access the rest of my line in summer, right now I can only get to about 10% in summer.

Don't buy anything older that 2000 and it sure helps to have a buddy that knows argos if you go to look at a used one!

I'll ask here (I already asked Shakeyjake) does anyone have any experience with the Argo fourwheelers? They've came out with a new Xplorer Pro with a dump bed on it that looks perfect for my use, but there is almost no info anywhere on the Argo fourwheelers. As far as real world experience, their website which gives the specs and advertising propaganda, and one or two reviews on ATV ezines that took them for a one day test. One guy a few years ago that didn't like his, and that is about it for any real world reviews I can find.

AK TT, in google search, I typed in “Argo vs Quad” and a bunch of discussions on message boards came up. From Alaska down into the other 49. Basically, it all depends what you’re asking the machine to do.

I have 2 argos a frontier and HDI,both tracked. Lots of maintenance and they are kinda slow but I can access areas and haul gear moose etc in areas that are almost impossible with a wheeler at least without alot of winching etc. They can be a love hate experience but considering i own more then one must be something appealing.

Had tracks on my Honda ATV's for a number of years. Overall, they were a positive experience. I could go anywhere and they handled the transition from snow to rock to mud to snow real well. The downside was they geared the vehicle down a lot and they burned probably a third more gas than tires. If speed isn't a factor and you can carry gas, you would probably enjoy them and not have to buy yet another vehicle.

I’m not the one asking, I have no use for either one. In fact I’m ditching all my snow machines too. I sold my cabin by talkeetna to a friend of mine, so I gave him my bearcat and my Polaris WT with the cabin, I’m selling my skandic and already sold my powder special. I’m staying in southeast, it’s less crowded and I’m happier here. And anything other than a boat or a plane on floats is useless here

Sorry AK I just noticed that, that should’ve been directed to RockCrick.

Argos are great when you’re a social influencer for the company and get the new editions every year…..lol. I ain’t one but there’s a big trapper and a huge outfitter on TV that are.
The maintenance is straight forward, but I guess compared to a quad it’d be a lot more.
The tracked 800 Polaris we got at work blew a new belt going through swamp after about 100 yards, gotta keep er in low. For the price of a decent set of tracks, on top of the price of the quad, that could be a pretty decent Argo, and they aren’t too bad on gas.

As said above Argo's need a lot of maintenance, but another consideration I don't see mentioned much is that their skid steering system can really tear up the ground; I've seen them create quite an eyesore.

Yes waggler, I heard from a guide friend who works in the area that Jim Shockey’s’ trails are visible from space grin

The outfitter we hunt with in Newfoundland uses Argoes. You have 6 in camp and 3 are broken down. He only has one mechanic, and the guy is run ragged.

He can afford a mechanic? Usually the guide is the mechanic……lol.
My buddy hired a new guide last spring. When he told him to load up the trailer with beaver and his crazy fancy bait, go re bait sites 20-35 and check the cams, the guy just looked at him flabbergasted.
“I’m a licensed guide! Get the others to bait”
So he was told that he was of no use to the camp, move on….lol.
