I am retiring from teaching after 31 years in public school. The school I have been at the entire time is the poorest school in our area with over 72% Free and reduced lunch. Things have changed a lot and it is time for me to go.

Can't wait.

Congrats on retiring. Sorry to hear about the state of affairs. Maybe everything going back to the state is a good thing? You must have interesting thoughts on the matter? Go catch a mess of blue gill on Monday.

Congrats, you must have seen a lot of the pendulum swings in parent involvement and lack of accountability in raising their kids properly. God bless.

That is great and I wish a great retirement. I retired early in life to enjoy and do what ever I want to when I want to, life is short. I do have a ranch that I have fall back on if I want to be there but I don't have to be there.

The trick is to retire to something and most on this site, that isn't a problem because we are outdoor people and the things are endless what can keep us busy.

Congrate on your retirement. It sounds like you are ready to move on from a situation you don't like.

Parents should be responsible for feeding their own children, I paid for my kids to eat and I am not interested in paying for other people's kids to eat or to attend college. The idea that hungry children can't learn is a myth. There were plenty of hungry children during the great depression and they learned just fine.

Just finished year 28 teaching. I can retire this year but I like the kids and teaching (not that you don't), youngest ( and last child home) will be in 8th grade next year, and our MO retirement is pretty great. It's not about the money but if I teach 5 more years until he is out I keep getting my salary then upon retirement would get $1200 more than I would now per month for life. Of course I could die today. A lot of change in 30 years but kids are still kids. They just want to have fun, hang out with their friends, and learn a little something. Have fun.

Two friends just retired from teaching in there 40s. Could not deal with kids and parents anymore. Things have changed since I was in school and not always for the better.

Congratulations on the retirement, sticking it out that long certainly took some grit.

As far as feeding kids, if kids are legally compelled to be there then they should be fed. You shouldn't force a kid to attend school with threat of force then also not make sure they're fed.

Congratulations and Thank You, I retired from teaching 3 years ago. I still miss the kids every day! Not the trainings or meetings that were useless, not the state mandates that made no sense for our rural area. Or the drama of some staff. I miss the kids. Enjoy your time you have earned it.
