Actually, the daily bag is 5 walleyes. Keep 3 in one lake and 2 more somewhere else. Yeah, I know. Most people don't do that though. I wouldn't lake hop like that so for me it's 3.

Actually, the daily bag is 5 walleyes. Keep 3 in one lake and 2 more somewhere else. Seems like a lot of launching and retrailering a boat for a few fish. Hopefully they’re good sized fish at least? I ate some when I visited my brother down in Idaho, but I’ve never seen one or caught one. Tasted like a fishier cod to me

I wouldn’t bother with it fo 3 fish ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/06/full-105-259677-img_0039.jpeg)

Ordered a walleye filet sandwich at a shoreside bar and grill on the shores of Lake Erie in NW Ohio several years ago.
Wasn't expecting the experience. That was the best tasting fish I've ever ate. Waitress said the fish was fresh, never frozen, straight from the Lake.

Carl, that’s a matter of perspective. My brother eats it because where he lives, that’s a premo white meat flakey fish. Personally I don’t bother with anything from fresh water, it all tastes fishy to me. Lingcod, halibut, yellow eye (in that order) is what I like Yellow eye and ling taste fishy to me. Walleye not at all. Funny how everyone has different taste Caught my limit of 6 walleye last evening in Lake Erie down the road from where I live

We don’t close our season here in the spring so we get hammered with in and out of state fishermen in the early spring before things heat up the fish grinders will overheat from overuse and a lot of nice fish are caught.

Thanks Bob. They come from Lake Hopatcong in northern NJ. I try to get up there every spring when the bite is on..
Walleye is probably my favorite freshwater fish. There's a reason they're called "poor man's lobster."

That's interesting, I could describe walleye with a lot of words but "fishy" wouldn't even cross my mind. I've eaten a lot of fish, from the atlantic, pacific, every great lake, smaller lakes, and a bunch of rivers, and I really have only found one that I don't like. Nuclear apocalypse would have to be upon us before I'd cook river zombie king salmon for my family. Other than that, if it's a fish I'll probably enjoy it, with walleye being right at the top of the list. My only problem with walleye is that I don't really enjoy trolling for them. I'll pull them through the ice or jig, but I don't enjoy driving a boat around trolling. I know some folks that live for it though.

I think walleye is at the top of most folk's favorite eating fish list. I don't enjoy trolling either. I much prefer casting crank baits/lures for walleye and every other specie I target.
