Isn't the University of Michigan in the upper Midwest?

Two Chinese "students" from Iowa state university were caught digging up freshly planted corn seeds a few years back. So the Chinese government could steal the genetics. Every Chinese student in the US has to pledge loyalty to the Chinese government before they are allowed to leave the country. It's easier to steal the technology than develop it on their own. They have been doing it for a long time.

Chinese know that they can provoke with the tiny stuff because Americans are too soft… they can get away with it and they know it. Will they ever pull a one on one confrontation with the USA militarily?? Probably when things have escalated. Is the USA /cia planting things in China? We very well could be.

Not sure smuggiling a fungal pathogen like this into the US is "tiny stuff"

From the news release I saw "Both Jian and Liu had researched the pathogen as university students in China, according to the complaint. The fungus, which scientific literature classifies as a potential agroterrorism weapon, can be used to target food crops, the affidavit states.

The toxic fungus causes "head blight," a disease of wheat, barley, maize, and rice, and is responsible for billions of dollars in economic losses worldwide each year, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan said in a news release. The toxins the fungus produces can cause vomiting, liver damage, and reproductive defects in livestock and humans."

A lot of foolishness get posted on these pages. My humble opinion. Now, talk to me about the invasion of the Asian Fruit fly (Drosophila sukukii) and now we're talking. That pest has caused billions in losses in the USA since 2008.

plenty of OTHER pests from Asia are wreaking havoc here, and HAVE been for generations.

personally, I think we should drop a few possums, nutria and Jehovah's Witnesses over there...see how THEY like it!

Marmorated stink bugs and spotted lantern flies are two relatively recent invasive arrivals from China around here. They've done millions of dollars worth of crop and ornamental damages.

Eh...wot?

Chinese malfeasance! LOL

Either in smuggled fruit from the homeland or possibly a lab in California doing research with fruit flies. I've heard both versions. The epicenter of the outbreak seems to have been in California, but even Europe has become infested.

We humans drag more crap around where ever we go. Not like we don't have long list of non natives from around the world. English sparrows, Norway rats,, probably came early. zebra mussels. Other thing stuck on ships. Heck pheasants if you want to mention something that isn't considered a nuisance. All about what it is where it came from and who it helps or negativily impacts.
