I was invited out to trap coons on a local large farm/ feedlot. Theyre having a heck of a time with coons ripping off the gates on their gated pipe. Say last summer they trapped 200-250 off their corn fields.

Any recommendations on bait this time of year? I plan on spreading a dozen DPs out and then rotating around all the different properties.

What do you guys do with coons trapped this time of year if anything?

Been at a feedlot last week and the coons walked right past all the dps and hung them up in dirt hole sets. Was that way all week my thoughts they have their belly full of all the corn silage and distillers and was looking for meat.

If they would let you I would find their trails and blid set them with body grippers. To me more efficient and faster than DPs or other footholds. They are already dispatched, especially with 160s. Have them dig you a big hole and put them there. They won't be in the corn for another month or 6=7 weeks, so find those trails to the feed lots. If they have plenty of feed and have been feeding in those areas, baits won't be as attractive to them as they know where to go to eat.

They are eating corn. I would try that and maybe a squirt of molasses or chocolate syrup on top the corn to stop them if you don’t have fire ants.Setting the trails like mentioned. Find out where they are coming from a creek or wood lot and set heaving that area that will be there bedding area.

Set blind sets or snares in the trails if they don’t object. When you find trails, set your blind set traps every 10 ft if the trails are heavy. Once the trails get too many catch circles, move down the trails 20+ ft and set it up again.

My philosophy is offering them something better than what they are getting into...or give what they are getting into well before they get to where it's supposed to be at. They can get one track minded when coming into big food sources

Thanks guys, they havent started eating corn yet as nothing has really grown. Sounds like what theyre doing right now is ripping the gates off the pipes and fishing for crawdads.
