Just spent a few days in the Black Hills with the family and made a point to take a day and go to the Museum of the Fur Trade in Chadron, NE. Spent several hours there looking at the displays and memorabilia encompassing the fur trade across North America. I'm sure there is nothing else like it, very worthwhile to see and well worth the drive.

If you go, plan on spending some time, there is a lot to see. The fur trade built North America, the museum shows you how.

Yes, absolutely a great museum to stop and see. So much information in there about the entire history of the fur trade.

Another good one is the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale, WY.

I visited the Museum of the Fur Trade many years ago. It was very good. They were in the process of adding new exhibits, so I imagine it has gotten much better.

They had small #1 size traps in their gift shop. That was cool. Not sure if they still do that.

Yep, spent some time there on one of my boondoggles. Fascinating glimpse back in time but still hard to fathom the depth of the hardship faced by the early settlers and trappers.

Nebraska's Fur Harvesters convention will be held in Chadron, NE. September 26-27. Be a good opportunity to visit the museum while there. I see they are going to have a demo with someone discussing the museum too.

I've been a member there for many years. A great place to support if you are interested in the history of the fur trade. Have not had the chance to go back for a visit in several years, but I need to make the time because it is well worth the effort. They have written many books on the fur trade over the years and have a good selection of books on site. Enjoyed it greatly.

The Museum of the Fur trade is a "must see" for anyone interested in fur trade history...and by extension, Ameican History!!

The last weekend in September the Nebraska Fur Harvesters will host their annual convention in Chadron, and the Museum will have a speaker on topic...

......and any NFH member gets FREE ADMISSION to the museum!

This is going to be a "must see" event with great demos, on-site living history mountain man encampment and trading post....and unique and unusually good demos!

watch for updates at nebraskafurharvesters.com

Never been a better reason to check that "bucket list" item off...see the museum and celebrate the trapping industry at the convention.
