Depending on which tooth is cracked / damaged , I'd be more inclined to go along with just getting it pulled . I've had 6 root canals done after throat cancer treatments . Long story short the radiation treatments wiped out my thyroid and saliva glands .
Infected teeth are no joke , ambusol ( ? On spelling ) or clove oil rubbed on the tooth may help some extra strength is the best , my dad swore by a shot of whiskey swished on and around the tooth , results may vary .
For me when it was all said and done I wouldn't get the root canal done after antibiotic drugs to fight off the infection . If you want a second opinion talk to a oral surgeon about what should happen next .
I wish you well ! Whatever you decide .
You're friend along the snare line . Allan

Having pulled 4 myself and the dentist also pulling 4. I wish I had any of those teeth back. Your not going to grow another and as Tatiana said it causes problems with adjacent teeth. Save your teeth while you can. I wish I would have. Now I'm looking at dentures in my future and am wishing I would have spent more money saving the ones I had. I pull mine because of the excruciating pain so I do understand

Thanks for the input guys, I’m going to the dentist now and going to wait in the waiting room until 1:45 lol Hope they will get me in sooner. I’m on antibiotics since Friday and so far no luck with that helping. Hope they can do same day work but we will see.

Your dentist will advise you what you should do depending on how much coverage your plan carries…..lol. I had one of mine pulled. To fix it would’ve sucked for both of us.

Never pull a tooth if you have other options. Get a root canal if you can. Yep. I’ve had several root canals done over the years. I’m 67, still have all my teeth.

Exdentist here. First teeth are expensive, no matter what. The few lucky of you guys that have no problems all their lives and don't take care of them are rare and few. But they do exist. There are other people that no matter what they do, no matter how much money they spend they will loose their teeth no matter what. Most of us are in-between there, some where slightly toward one of those group or the other. Molars are important for eating and to hold the rest of the ones in line-----early loose of teeth (baby teeth hold space open for the big boys) cause the teeth to shift out of line. Tatiana was mostly right. Now if that molar is a wisdom tooth take it out but the first molar (2 infront of the wisdom tooth) is the main building block of support, loosing that things slowly go south. You have to consider the health of the rest of the teeth, the health of the patient and the age of the patient, the money it will cost, the insurance payment and your share. All together there is no simple answer, some teeth are more important that others and some can be sacrificed due to money problems. This has to be the most I have ever written on the computer......jk Basically you need to talk to your dentist and not just say one thing or another, ask about the long term for YOU

Well they got me in early at 8 o’clock but unfortunately they don’t do root canals there and refer them out. everybody I called was booked until July or August. The only other option was to pull it but they recommend that I didn’t. So after calling around everywhere, I found somebody that can look at it on Wednesday and do a root canal the following Tuesday. I’m assuming this is going to be the longest week of my life.lol the pain Iis pretty crazy Try Vicodin ibuprofen Tylenol, but none of it seems to really touch it. Cold water gives a little relief. Don’t have insurance but I don’t mind paying to get it done right. Just Wish I could be done faster

How old are you? Think this through..... I looked at your profile to find this out before reading this post, shows no DOB, If your young might be a good move to save it for as long as you can.

I am 38 for a couple days yet lol I am definitely going to try and save it. As for pain I will try about anything at this point. I did try prescription hydrocodone from My appendix surgery I had left over. Didn’t help at all though. Maybe I’ll double it up

You made the right decision not to pull it. Originally I assumed it was a wisdom tooth. You wan to keep those molars.
