Ness, I called 3 places. Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia. All were with 100 bucks of each other. They average is 600 -650 each.
Called my engine rebuilder. He builds racing engines for a living. He will build my original block all except manifold and carb for $3500 out the door. Bored .30 over and blueprinted. About 400 ponies or so. I don't want more then that for a street car. The engine is a .350.

You must be going with some good flowing Aluminum heads .

To pull 400hp out of a 350 ..on pump gas

We'll see. Like to keep the original heads on the car. Either way i will keep the heads in storage for originality. Car was produced at Van Nuys, California. They are known as smog heads. So, it might get a nice set of heads. He's optimistic he can get close to or at 400. I'll settle for 350.
Either way, it will be fun.
The Th350 will be rebuilt as well. I'm thinking 1200-1500. Moderately built, no race or drag car. Just a nice healthy street car for shows and the cruising.

X2 - From someone who works in a plating shop.

Rechroming a bumper is a lost art. Most plating shops cannot handle something that big. Mine included. Takes big equipment to do something that big. With the loss of big things to plate , like chrome bumpers and other old school car related chrome most shops do smaller parts only. My nickel tank is only 38" long. The chrome tank is about the same. Plus the way electroplating works is with electricity flowing through the part to attract the plating metal. Large parts are very difficult to get good electrical control to plate very evenly as to get good coverage and not going too far and burn the metal as it plates onto the base metal.

Very , very fine line of enough but not too much. The nickel is not as finicky to find that balance , but the chrome top layer is like brain surgery , very tough to get it right. An art form.

I deal with this every day. Small parts are way easier and if you have repeat business , you can come up with a formula and recipe for identical parts you see every week.

I have to plate parts and strip them back to the base metal when it goes wrong and start over. Happens a lot. Normal , until you figure out exactly how much voltage/amperage/temperature of solution/time of plating each part takes. Not easy.

Thanks for the info. Had no idea the process it takes. Going the rechrome way verses the repop parts.

K snow. Is that your dad and mom? If so, nice Pic and memories. Plus the GTO isn't bad either.

Yep, that's Mom and Dad. 1971 or 2ish, I think. At my Mom's grandma's house. He bought that GTO in 68, when it was 6 months old. He enlisted in 1970. Drove it daily until it got sold in 1983 for a station wagon, 3 kids will do that.

Sounds like an awesome project. Have fun with it. I do remember Dad doing burnouts with the GTO leaving church on Sunday's.

GTO's were pretty spendy...back in the day.

With the options in mine ...the window sticker is a touch ovah 4,000.00

You could by a modest home for 16,000.00

So the GTO was 25% of a home......
