Do you mean "Where the Red Fern Grows"? It's a kids book, age 9 should be right up his alley.
Every kid needs a Dog and a Curmudgeon.
Remember Bowe Bergdahl, the traitor.
Beware! Jill Pudlewski, Ron Oates and Keven Begesse are liars and thiefs!

yup about 9 is great , my dad read it to me the first time around 8 I think and I think it was 6th or 7th grade when we read it in school.
that boy is definitely going to want you to take him hunting or trapping after you read it to him.
if you have an oil lantern , and an ax he might would like to try navigating at night with an oil lantern and cut down even a small tree with an ax
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Yup 9 is definitely old enough. I think I was about 8 when I read it and then promptly embarked on doing as Billy did. Buried my mason jar of money in the garden, lol. Took me 2 years to save the money for a red puppy but I did, and got it.
Your grandson will likely want a hound though, once he reads it.
Proudly banned from the NTA.
Bother me tomorrow. Today I'll buy no sorrows.
