Once it has settled at the bottom of the drift reel in and do it again. You'll get those suckers and probably a few of those nice browns in there as well. Which bridge is closest to you? Maybe I can help set you in the right direction to some good holes to fish. You can walk up or down stream to fish as long as you keep a foot wet and most of those areas the farmers don't mind walking the bank to access holes. As always you should ask permission first but I don't think you will have any trouble getting access that way. Remember to leave the area better than you found and pick up trash the slobs leave behind. Any questions you can PM me if you want.

It is the County Road Y bridge right by New Centerville:

Yep. What you do is get some road kill, or make your own, a dead possum, groundhog, coon etc. Anything you can stand to pick up with out gagging. Take road kill and some wire to your river. Wade out or boat out and tie the road kill up just out of the water on a limb. 6" above the water is about good enougjh. Make sure there is 1 to 2 foot of water to give the fish some cover.

Wait a few days and the dead critter will turn into a maggot factory. Maggots will fall off and fish will hang out underneath to pick them up when they fall off.
Catfish, bass, panfish carp, sucker................Anything that will eat larve will be under this mess.
For bait, toss little white soft rubber lures underneath it. Or about anything. Uncle Joshes maggots will work if you don't want to handle the real ones. Works!

Wow that is interesting! I wonder if that's legal here?? They have some pretty fancy laws about fishing on trout streams

IDK. I've caught them on worms, but they ignore worms most of the time seems like. I've had schools of em that won't respond at all.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

yep, that's kind of what I'm dealing with... A couple times I've drifted a worm right up to his mouth and he won't take it! I think I need a smaller hook or smaller chunk of worm maybe

I used to sight fish for them with cut freshwater clams. Suckers like to pick up and quickly spit anything out when they feel the hook.
The clam's foot is rubbery and hides the feel of the hook better than worms and they really like clams. Since the clam is white, it is easy to tell when it picks it up so you can set the hook right away.
They fight kindly fight like what a marital aid device with epilepsy would.

all our clams in WI are protected
we have some different fishing regs than a lo of places.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Suckers in our clear running creeks respond to a 8/0 treble hook in the fall through the spring.

We call it grabbing. Paint the hook white or other color you can see.
