I had read a few different things about guys using beaver tails for bait on trotlines..
I’ve tried several suggestions and they just don’t seem to be interested..
On the same line I alternated beaver tail chunks and cut shad.. the shad was stripped but the beaver tails were still there and no fish.
I’ve got probably 25 tails I saved for use on the trotlines.. now I’m not sure what I’m going to do with them.. don’t know if I’ll skin them out for leather… I really don’t have a place to render the oil out of them because I’m certain they are going to stink as they start to break down.
Just hate the idea they are taking up freezer space.

I've tried alot of baits/lures/ methods when it come to trapping/hunting/fishing that was supposed to work really well but for whatever reason didn't for me. Just part of the game.

John, pre-season baiting is a possibility....I used to nail them to fence posts up high as the oil would leak out on the post...soak in.
Took them to Texas and trapped back in '19 and tried them in dirt holes....summer trapping got an education about buzzards....lol
They get greasy in hot weather...play with them and see.

Cut up put in jars in sun, render some black tail oil. I never did good with it but others seem to

Beaver tails don't really stink when you render them. It doesn't "work" and send off lots of gas like other things do
