Yup. And now the wait begins………

On line bidding catalogs with pictures and values hopefully will be up sometime tomorrow. Lots of interesting goods in the dressed catalog for the craft buyers. I can’t wait.

Yes. The handling fee on dressed goods is $3.50. Regardless of species. A tanned muskrat is $3.50. A tanned 4X ranch fox is $3.50. Doesn’t seem fair but what can a person do.

So is it possible to know how my fox graded at this point?

Below is an example of the lot (FHA Sale Number) that my fox are in. But there are many more fox in that lot than I sent. And there are all different grades. What does the second number after the Sale Number signify?

Lugnut I don’t think you know yet which lot your fox are separated in to unless you were sent something else.. that’s just the catalog. And it’s unlikely you fox will grade eastern.

The second number is the individual lot number.

There are centrals a couple pages down, that's likely what mine will grade. I just took a screen shot of part of the first page.

So when do we find out which lot number or numbers our furs have been assigned to?

Eh...wot?

Thanks for all the info mud. I'm looking forward to seeing the grading and the actual auction.

Sorry for asking a bunch of annoying newbie questions. LOL

No problem… we were all there at one point if you sell to the international auctions. I suggest not getting your hopes up on the fox though. Historically for me anyway our type of fox don’t do very well at FHA. I rarely send reds there.

Yeah, I watched the last FHA auction and the centrals didn't do very well.

My regular buyer, a furrier from Colorado, paid me well for my reds for quite a few years, 10-25% over market value. Circumstances changed and he no longer buys my reds. I was left scrambling to find a decent buyer.

I got lots of good tips here on Tman and I hope to have better options/buyers lined up by the end of next season

I also shipped to NAFA for a good number of years but that chapter is closed too.

I'm pretty sure they'll do better than at most of the PTA auctions but that's not a very high bar. LOL

Lotting is out..

Brutal grade. Not one select out of 49 beaver shipped and not one xd/dk. I typically run about 20% selects and I never sent a darker selection of beaver.
I typically run 40% black rats and while I did sell quite a few black ones privately, they only pulled out 4 out of 110 shipped. I shipped 30-40 blacks while some may have been slights of slight damage.

Hope most did better than me but this grading for me was brutal…
Not one xd/dk.. brutal

Lugnut - FH (and NAFA when they were in business) intersort trappers goods. That means your pelts, identified as yours with a unique bar code, are put with all the other red fox and then graded by - section, size, color, heaviness, fur quality, etc.

It is entirely possible that if you sent 25 red fox, they might end up in 25 lots. Or at least 10 or more lots. All bar codes are scanned multiple times to keep every ones pelts straight.

Mud, that is strange you didn't get any of those in the pic to grade extra dark. They must have installed a new lighting system in the warehouse.

This is a pelt bar code, similar to ones used by FH. It is a unique code that identifies a specific pelt and who owns that pelt and how it is graded. Every pelt gets a bar code tag except for muskrat and ermine. It is usually attached on the underside of the head, in the lower lip area. Every tag is stapled several times.

I never sent a darker collection BP. Not here or when I trapped up north in Vt. There were more than a few selects as well. I don’t grade fur for a living but I’ve sent enough beaver to FH alone to know a general idea of what I send. This one was nuts. It’s probably my worst ever grade of beaver and rats ever and it was one of my better collections of beaver.

I, on the other hand am pleased with how my western Oregon cats graded. All were Westerns and graded either semi-hvy or hvy B-C bellies. Whether that translates into decent money we will see. Anything over $100 and I'll be ahead of what I got offered in K. Falls for them.

My few fox I sent graded as expected.. the couple otter I sent north I knew were lighter brown to pale and had no claws on so they went north and graded fantastic. The rats and beaver are a mystery to me. They graded so poorly I probably won’t even listen in on this auction. It’s that bad.

Mud, I dare say we've all been there at some point. I'll never forget having about 30 out of 50 otters grade dmg back when otter were going great because they had some freckles on their upper backs. Clear leather except for the little elongated dark spots. I was told "tick bites" when I called about it. Might be a thing in the south but our otter don't have 'em.

You’ll appreciate this Carl… a bunch of the ones you’ve seen pics of on the beaver thread not only didn’t grade dark, but they graded as westerns, lol
