I've seen them and know how they were used. There's a good reason they fell out of favor. Nobody wants to be pounding them into their bench repeatedly, good way to wreck your bench.

I use a tail vise and bench dogs, sometimes hold fasts.

Shucks, I thought people still used them. I didn't know they were to be pounded into your bench. I thought they were to hold 2 boards in a certain position?

I've seen them for sale, never in person. Would like to get one to try out. Not afraid to pound stuff into my bench top. It's just a fir 2x12. Currently just use holdfasts and a planing stop. No vices on my bench.
