You just reminded me of mom's story of when she was a kid. everyone had been eating breakfast and there was a piece of meat left on the serving plate in the center of the table she had been eye balling
She was small and the youngest and made her move fast and hard going to spear it with her fork. Just ahead of her, my grandfather reached to grab it with his hand quickly and mom stabed him right in the hand with her fork.

Growing up as a PK in the early 70,s dad did not make very much money but us boys always had fishing hooks, 22 shells and shotgun shells, deer rifles and bullets. Mom made the best squirrel pot pie and biscuits!

I lived off of sugar sandwiches for a spell as a kid. You live off of nothing but that, you won't need no horse walker to stay trim. You just needed someone to keep you from running around in traffic. I only got run over once...

People had less stuff when most moms stayed home but they ate better food. It was a real treat to get a soda pop, candy, ice cream, or potato chips when I was a kid. PE at school meant running and calisthenics. PE today is a joke. Working moms serve a lot of premade ready to eat stuff. Kids don't ride their bikes all the over the place anymore. IMO that is the cause of the American obesity crisis.

Lots of bad food these days if you can even call it that and sedentary life styles not good for the body or soul.

I see you was raised upper middle class. Name brand hairspray and snack cakes in the house.

Haves and the Have Nots I reckon.

It’s not just even being fat today the Nation is vastly out of basic normal shape health wise many Americans can’t walk up a slight incline without being winded. 20 years ago I could out rum 2/3 of my class at the Academy many were in their 20s and 30s but played video games in their every spare moment.

when I went to my brother in laws graduation from basic the young guys all full of (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) and vinegar wanted a push up competition with this old man (me about 35 at the time). To my surprise and major disappointment not one of those young guys fresh out of basic keep up with me. I don't think but one made it past 40. I stoped before failure at 65.

the video games and life style is why my boys are so much stronger than the other kids their age I think. Splitting wood, throwing hay, packing buckets of water and bags of feed and running around the woods sure build you up more than video games.

The out of shape guys won’t hunt with me a second time I think it’s funny the ones that do keep up I still need to let them catch up but I don’t like people on heels so that’s good. My one hunting partner that is 75 keeps up well my other biddy in his 60s struggles and won’t hunt in the high country hills.

Except for the ones with medical issues being fat is a choice. Laziness and serving unhealthy food on your table is a choice. I feel for the single Parents but there are a ton of crockpot recipes out there that are better then the processed stuff.

They should all be taken from their parents and sent to fat camp.

All of my kids have to make weight for wrestling or Judo. Creates discipline and fit kids.

And, I have to set a good example so eating like a pig is out. And lifting weights/exercising is in.

Plus, I want to be able to get around when I'm old(er).

Funny, my oldest hit HS around 220.
And they wanted him bigger.

Been a SHW the last decade.
Said once you're a SHW, who cares?

Still spends a TON of time working out

Taking 600# for a walk

LOL, sometimes you got to move heavy stuff you can't get at with equipment

For his size, he's surprisingly athletic.
Started BJJ at 11 and has a good ground game.
And being stronger than 99.9% of humanity doesn't hurt

reason for this post was my youngest adopted sisters daughter is a porker. I was going to get on my sister case about it when the kid was 7. Mom asked me not to so I didn't. Just saw a picture of her last week and now she has blown up crazy fat. Worse she is a young teen. Then yesterday mom called to Tell me she now has diabetes or sugar issues she had to.check her blood daily.

So I'm a bit mad at myself for not saying something about it years ago out of respect for my mother. would not have made a difference but still should have said something.

I have no idea how people can let their kids get fat like that. The parent is 100% responsible for the child's diet and activities. There is no excuse.
