A beaver passed by the camera at the culvert on my pond last night. I've not seen recent signs of beaver on the property. But there's a few acres of standing dead trees in the low ground along the creek. The state forester said they were likely flooded to death decades ago. And there's at least a couple very old beaver chewed stumps. Our assumption is that 20 years ago a beaver temporarily flooded it and killed the trees. So I don't want a beaver taking up residence on my property.

We've gotten a lot of rain this spring and creek flodded again yesterday. So I'm wondering if it got washed downstream in the flood and was just headed home? Or are they pretty good at not getting pushed around by a flood?

We've spent a lot of time and money planting trees on the property so if it takes up residence I'll be quick to respond. I'm just curious what the chances are its moving in.

Probably transient, scoping for new digs.

Just doing what I want now.

Probably a two year old which recently got kicked out by its momma, looking for a new place of its own. It is just as likely that it passed through as it is that it is considering re-establishing your formerly beaver-occupied property.
It will start by building a dam. Keep your eyes peeled for that activity. Dam building should commence soon if it plans on staying there.
