when you need 500 feet get a 2 mile , when you need a mile get a 15 mile
that is my guide to making sure you have enough charger to LIGHT YOU UP or anything else that touches it
make sure you make all your wire ground with a hot wire about 3-4 inches up and a little out
grabbing a hot wire with dry non conductive shoes tickles a bit
grabbing a hot wire with wet shoes or bare feet it is going to wake you up
but getting your arm on wire and the had on the fence WILL GET YOUR ATTENTION !!!!! and if you get it one hand on hot wire and one hand on the grounded fence so you take it across your chest , YOU ARE GOING TO REMEMBER THAT.
you want every animals first encounter with your charger to be standing on the hardware cloth that helps keep the birds in and diggers out , when they bump up against that hot wire. if they get stuck there and pulse several times even better
nose on wire to paw on grounded wire mesh should make a impression that those birds are not worth it.
Grounding is 100% of a good electric fence…
Anyone remember the old “hot shot” fencer? Them things would though you for a loop…..
Yes and yes
MY .02
Buy the smaller solar powered ones for using on your chicken/quail tractors and small areas
Buy a plug in the wall XL one for goats.
They are one of THE hardest things to control per my research. Not sure if it their hair, hooves provide some insulation or what.
Also on the goat set up or any permanent installation, set up a ground aray. Multiple ground rods tied together. In addition to a ground wire or 2 in the fence
As Vinke said, your ground is the key to the whole setup
Galagher used to have a guide on their website for all things electric fence
