Has anyone successfully used cages for otters on boat docks? Foot traps are not an option and body grips in baited box's screwed to the side just in the water work occasionally. any help would be appreciated.

I have caught otter on a dock with a big cage. Bait with a couple brim and some otter lure. Screw the cage to the dock and put a piece of wood between the dock and cage. I setup, but never caught, an otter in a Comstock two door beaver trap hung in the corner of the dock with the bottom door closed. I used chain to suspend the top door at the water level. I baited it with live brim. I thought it would work, but the otter stopped coming to the dock. I also built an L shaped piece of wood and set a foot hold 8 inches below the water level. I screwed this into the dock and hung a dead brim above the trap. The trap was on a drowning cable with a cinder block on the other end.

I had a lot of luck with a 280 inside the opening of a milk crate with a muskrat carcass wire to the back. Submerged underwater. I'd suggest setting it up on a drowner as more than once I had otter caught by the leg and even just toes a couple times. I think sometimes they either try to reach in or they use their feet and try to crawl in. But it works and I caught 3 or 4 otter at a marina doing that.
