Hello. Had a hail insurance claim on our roof in 2020 and got a new one. Had hail come through a couple of months ago which did lightly dent the truck up. Would making a claim on the roof again cause insurance to be dropped/go up? State Farm. Thanks..

I'm doubtful that filing a claim alone would cause you that kind of problem but getting someone to evaluate your roof would be a top priority for me anyway.

Failure to report s loss same year as it occured can give a carrier justification to either not pay a future claim or to pay only part dog it (ACV only)

Now that you know that you should also know this: a roofer is like a barber in that every barber you ask will think you need a hair cut. Every roofer will want to sell you a new roof.

The solution for most homeowners is to ask a roofer to take photos of the damage. If nobody else will I will look at the photos and tell you what the industry standard would be when it comes to needed repairs.

Having a hail claim in most states won't cause your policy to be cancelled, as weather-related claims are unavoidable and not the fault of the homeowner. If there has been a large number of claims in a certain area insurance rates could be increased for insureds in that area.

A simple call to your State farm agent will remove all the guess work.

With some light hail damage ...they have teams of Paintless Dent Repair ( PDR) guys

They do a great job. Have had acorn dented cars ...that were going back...cuz the

Lease was up. Guy came to the shop ...and all those dings disappeared.

They will send their adjuster out to figure all of that out for you.

The most telling photo is of the box vent. It
tells me that the hail was frozen solid like a bell bearing and left ping pong ball sized hits on a soft metal. The frequency is concerning- that box vent is about 1 sf and is ridged on 3 edges and much less on the fourth.

What that means is that many more stones hit it than recorded dents and so your shingles would too. I don't see any hail impacts but those shingles are very tough for 4 or 5 years.

The ridge cap shingles are much more vulnerable- did you inspect them?

I'll check the ridge caps. Shingles are Malarkey and supposed to be pretty good/withstand some hail.

I see a company that seals your old roof rather than redoing it you could look into that maybe.

I talked to a insurance adjuster who said ins companies are going to start looking at roofs like a set
of tires, and only pay for what tread is on the shingles. Every time we get a hail storm in our area
it brings out the roofing crews looking for ins jobs.

If you need to replace the roof again, ask your insurance company how much the discount is for getting "impact rated" shingles. We had ours replaced 15 years ago. At the time it was like $1,000 more. We've recouped more than that in insurance savings since. But the best part is, there's been more hail storms and we see our neighbors getting new roofs, but ours is fine.
