So many reasons but we ARE addicted to cheap junk we used to call Kmart (came apart) break it just go buy another one.

Follow the money they say.

Who benefited when jobs got pushed overseas not the workers who promoted the move politicians, have you ever seen a poor politician? LOL
Unions asking for too much I’m not talking hourly rate as much as the other endless add ons that hurt the cause.
Is quality stuff really any cheaper now that it’s made in another country just go to Cabelas to see it’s not so that $4 an hour is saving us money?
Our meds being made in China the same people selling toxic kids toys and trying to poison our crops make our meds and they are NO cheaper. I had an original and replacement med one was made in the US the other in China both were the same price how does that make sense?
US made pole spikes were way cheaper then he imported ones that were on the shelf the next trip to Menards how’s that possible almost double.

Just like paper or plastic we were sold that plastic was better then paper even now with the planet choking on plastic they still push plastic over biodegradable paper that is renewable. Go to a landfill and see what’s stuck all over the fences.

Follow the money not what they tell you!

Just examples of things that don’t add up over the years.

At a flea market up at Grand Prairie I once invested about 10 bucks into a 6 pack of Tshirts and a 6 pack of skivvies. The clearly said product of Guatemala.

I stowed them behind the back seat for road trips where I brought
4 changes of clothes but ended up staying out another night or 2. They worked just fine to wear exactly once. Try to wash them and they fell apart.

Back in my younger days everything seem to come from Japan and not China like today. A lot of it was inferior garbage.

Fuel/water separators labeled as Racor. I knew right away when I removed them from their packaging that they would not go on my boats with lives potentially dependent on there function. They were covered with all Ching Chow print, on the cartridge.

Maybe its both.

For sure Americans love to get their "deals" on cheap stuff. No matter what the cost to their neighbors and country.
If we didn't always buy the cheapest and instead willingly paid more for better products and if nothing else being willing to buy American even if it costs us more we wouldn't be in this boat.

Labor unions had their place and time about 100 yrs ago, but now their us against them attitude has pushed many businesses out and to different counties.
If they worked together with the companies, making sure the employees they represented were qualified and well trained, policed themselves to keep out or get rid of the bad apples and help with production/process improvements they'd be more welcome.

I never had a problem paying up for quality. If you look at the service those goods gave you, it was actually cheaper than the junk imports. The 30 year old guy that still lives at home and wears pajamas and crocs doesnt need durability in clothing. Take Carhartt for example, Im pretty suire none are made in the USA anymore- you can poke your fingernail through them. College students love them though.

Law Dog, you are spot-on. American's wanted lots of stuff, but couldn't afford LOTS of quality stuff, so as a whole, was willing to substitute quality for quantity.

Just doing what I want now.

I changed out some 8 ft light fixtures this week in the metal shop put in some new cold starts. I noticed that technology has totally missed the lighting industry. The bulbs have come a long way but the basic fixture is unchanged in all these years.

Still poorly stamped sheet metal with the dumbest possible way to assemble them stupid clips instant strip metal screws a guy needs 3 hand to get them hung.

Just today’s rant. LOL

Yeah that reminds me of the first guy who decided to install a V-6 in a front wheel drive car sideways. 3 of the spark plugs were against the firewall so you had to drop at least 2 motor mounts and rock the whole works forward just to change plugs and wires. Dumb,,,

We can blame the unions for higher labor costs, I suppose. But a lot of unionization came about because employers wouldn’t make safety changes in the workplace.

Nobody seems to blame the large American corporations that built their factories overseas. When car company boards of directors voted to go for cheaper labor, so their salary packages didn’t take a hit, it wasn’t just the union’s demands for living wages and safer work places that prompted this move. There is PLENTY of blame to go around.

A month ago, I spoke with a trap manufacturer who wants to have his products made here. He told me the cost per unit was at least twice what he pays now. Discounting the overseas cost of shipping, he said his bottom line would force prices up to the point you and I wouldn’t buy his products. The bottom line is if he can’t compete, he has no business.

Unions have abused their duty I was in the teamsters in Chicago for many years it was a do nothing glorified insurance outfit. Our rep came in for years he talked to the boss who was not union until we figured out who he was. The guy was a total sellout that did not would not do his job.

I worked in the parts dept when the mechanics went on strike we were told not to cross the picket line so we asked about strike pay. When asked what we paid dues for they said, “you pay them to work there!”

Lost all respect for them after that. Had a Union at the county but never met the representative I still get a monthly magazine from them and credit card offers for some reason.

Do you know what the AVERAGE wage is in America?? It's $30.67/hr. In Vietnam it's $4.35/hr. In China, it's considerably higher at $19 something, BUT in China their lowest minimum wage is also $1.47/hr... yes, less than a buck and a half an hour.

How do you expect American companies to produce zip ties or tupperware for anywhere close to the price of foreign made stuff? We've voted ourselves out of the ability to manufacture throw away items for a reasonable cost. The only things American companies can AFFORD to manufacture are things that come with high price tags.... vehicles, medicines, computer components, rocket ships, defense equipment, etc. They can't pay people $15-20/hr to manufacture the stuff to stock the shelves of the Dollar Tree.

Tupperware, a company that manufactures SOME but not all of their food storage containers at a U.S. plant can still be purchased if you want American made. They're only $100 for a 4 piece set. Just make sure the ones you're buying WERE made in America....

What labor unions had control on toys and cheap crap that's made over seas today?
