Ordered 4 of these traps and they are the open jaw type. Has anyone put closed jaws on these traps?

I believe the term you are looking for is "offset", where the jaws don't close all the way. If they are steel jaws, not cast you can easily swap them. Wissmiss or one of the other trap dealers should have jaws for them. Many, myself included prefer offsets on cat and coyote traps.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I have replaced a few sets of jaws on them. 160 is right the cast jaws are a lot more touchy when trying to replace.

Be sure and wear glasses and face shield would be better when changing them. I've had those jaws fly out of the vise and bout took an ear off.

Put the PIT pans on them that is an improvement worth the cost.

I agree in most land trappin uses I'd spend money on the pit pans before I worried about the jaw design.

Found some on sterlings website. If I replace the jaws will I need to switch out the dogs also? On the page they have soft catch dogs and long spring dogs.

Why do you have to or think you have to replace the jaws? Both the regular closed jaw and offset jaw style traps have caught thousands of animals throughout the years.

What are your targeted animals? For coon i definitely would prefer non-offset jaws, ok for most other critters......jk

If he’s trapping coons with a #3 LS I hope he stays home and bakes pies instead. LOL

Ill use these for water trapping. And in Indiana the jaw spread is small enough I don't need off set jaws. The gap on the victors is a lot more than the newer Bridger traps I own. I just like tinkering with things.

For water use I used closed jaw on land offset not that they won’t hold on a good catch but with slippery critters Id go with the regular jaws.
