Besides shooting them as possible, this has been my approach as well. In the last year, I'm just not getting ahead of them.

I agree with Bryce. I just use a #0 or #1 longspring with peanut butter on the pan. Works great.

Get yourself a lawn chair, cooler with preferred beverages, and a fishing pole. Tie a surgeons loop in the line, bring the main line back thru to create a loop. Find an active hole and place loop around the rim. Await them to poke their head out and the rodeo begins…helps to be about 20-30 yards back…
