Iran has more Jewish people than any other Middle Eastern country than Israel, though it's only a fraction of what it used to be. Most Iranian Jews moved to Western countries or Israel immediately before, or right after the revolution, in 1979.

Yes, the Islamists used the communist and socialist college students as useful idiots to oust the Shaw in November of 1979. Most of those students were then later killed by the Islamists. The islamists are trying to use the communist, socialist and LGBTQ students in a similar way now, with the pro Palestine movement. They won't gain control, but if they did, they would likewise kill them.

Iran has, or at least had some amazing stone works.

I've seen some travel shows on Iran. There are many beautiful Zoroastrian temples still and some pretty impressive Islamic ones. On the travel shows, the hosts had most sites virtually to themselves, including one fantastic, 60 plus acre site.
