So I bought this thing for $50. Ive always kinda had in my head to have one of these setup to scald hogs via wood fire in. It might be fun to have a portable hot tub like to show up to a bon fire with. lol.
Anyway do these marks mean anything to anyone?
Ever re finish one of these to where i could rewhite the top side?
I was half thinking about scrubbing her down and painting it with black stove paint or something?
Is there a chrome paint or something fun I should look at?
Any other ideas?
From the net .....
(SSM Co.) The name Standard Sanitary Manufacturing Company was used from 1899-1929.
History of SSM Co. -
1887 - D&M (Dawes & Myler Mfg Co. in PA.) was formed when Edward Dawes left Standard Mfg Co. and joined with William Myler. (By 1893, they only made iron tubs.)
1899 - SSM Co (Standard Sanitary Mfg Co) was formed when Standard Mfg Co., D&M, Ahrens & Ott Co., and 6 other companies merged.
1929 - American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Corp. formed by merger, but they continued to produce cast-iron tubs under the Standard Sanitary Mfg. Co. label.
On the bottom of the tubs, you'll find initials for the factories:
The SW stands for Standard Works (factory), AO Works (Ahrens & Ott factory) and DM for Dawes & Myler factory. Though the factories used their own names, the fixtures were produced under the Standard Sanitary Mfg. Co label.
1948 - The name was shortened to American-Standard
1967 - Hyphen from name removed.
Today the company is Trane.
