In an effort to not hijack the DP thread on page 2...

What is your favorite DP bait for coons when there are a lot of cats that you need to avoid. I usually use catfood or fish based baits but obviously those will attract cats. I was thinking mini marshmallows dusted with jello powder? Any other suggestions?

I've used Jameson's Fireball and another bait by Northern Sport company call Sticky Fingers with great success. Both are excellent sweet type baits that I've used to avoid cats. I always use the min marshmallows in conjunction with these baits.

I agree with silky. I think a person needs to use something on the sweet side.

Golf ball on top of the DP should be added protection against cats. Not saying they can't knock it off, but less likely for them to get into one.

Feed corn. Caught one in the yard last night. I had to use the corn so I didn’t catch the kids’ cat.

Fruit loops have killed a lot of raccoons for me.

I have a large jar of mint jelly, and grape is especially good too.

Thanks for the ideas. That gives me some options.

Ditto on fruit loops.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

A sweet bait as mentioned and put some outside the trap. If they don't like the bait less likely to work the trap also.

It doesn't matter what you are using for bait in those traps, you should not set them where it is likely a pet someone loves will encounter it.
