Long way up but I made it finally. I was in the back seat. Grandson wanted to drive.

I was up there when I was maybe 9 years old.
It was a really fun trip.
My uncle was stationed at ft Carson and we got to stay with him on base.
I remember the first mountain I ever saw was Cheyenne mountain… I had absolutely no clue at the time what was in there.

If you want a good walk in the area, try out the Manitou Incline. I did it with the boys my first time, and we made it up there in 1 hour 33 minutes. I did it myself last summer in 58 minutes. It's just stairs......

I first went to PikesPeak as a Boy Scout in the late 50s. Rode the cog wheel train. The road up wasn’t paved.
The Scout Jamboree was on the AF Academy grounds but the academy wasn’t built. Eisenhower met the scouts and the Linen Sisters sang for us.

I think a cup of hot chocolate was a quarter. I refused to spend that much so I did without.

Got to ride to the top as a kid on a family vacation. I remember being quite afraid at that moment as we got higher and higher. I was probably 12 years old at the time.

I enjoy that whole area as there is lots to do. Cave of the winds, garden of the gods, and fishing at Woodland Park are great. The Royal Gorge isn't far either. Have fun and stay away from Maggie's.
