Hello, I'm from Canada and just recently bought a Victor 330. They are hard to get here. I bought it mostly for my collection. I wanted a true Conibear. But I was wondering what people think of the traps themselves. Are they well made? Any difficult areas about them? I'm used to using Belisle 330 for beavers but I'm kinda excited to try the Victor.

Victor were good traps. I have a couple. I would say some of the spring didn't stay strong as others. When I really started trapping beaver years ago I purchased Northwoods brand in the late 70's. I still have those and the springs are all still strong. I don't know if you can get a much better trap than the Belisle though. The Victor will work.

I run mostly victors. I love them. I even have old square corner ones but don't use them anymore. Spring strength is still good on them all. I personally DON'T like the belisle safeties like most seem to. I find them hard to operate. I've never had a safety mess up the operation of any trap I've had. Although I have forgotten to take them off a few times. That can happen with any brand crazy

I with you Dale on the Belisle safeties. I use a trick from Seldom, use tubing under the standard safety and they stay in place.

Spring eyes will go over the corners. That will allow release of a hard fighting otter.

Never lost an otter in a 330, even in my old square jaw Victors. I did have one alive in a square jaw once, but seeing the tracks fresh in the melting snow I knew it had been caught minutes before I got there, and it was hip caught.

I'm with you Dale on the Belisle safeties. Maybe if I used setters I would like them, but I set by hand and those safeties are a real pain to use while squeezing the springs by hand. The floppy safeties I just squeeze the springs, tilt the trap until the safety is in place, and relax the springs into the safety.

Guys, lots of trappers went to adding a kill bar to their STRONG sq jaw 330s and found a big difference in performance.

One of the big things on the victor traps is the 4 way trigger. This allows the trap to fire if the trigger was bumped sideways. Which was an important feature as mink and otter are good at squirming around the trigger. The 4-way are or were banned in some states where otter are protected or have limits and is recommended in other states that they are not used on 280/330 size traps for beaver if otter are around and you can't keep em

I keep my old stuff for spots that they could grow legs. Stocked up on Belisles. They obviously work well though, they’ve taken a lot of beaver. When I started trapping, I never had an empty Belisle, the old victors and others it was a more common occurrence. Proper set up will lower that miss rate.

Does anyone else find Belisle traps a bit excessive. The springs are amazingly strong and fast but I've had a number of them bend the frame after catches because of the raw power. I know they are very well made but....
