Im not a very good skunk trapper Bob but I did try to call Mick to see how many he had at the auction. He's talking about slowing down but 80 skunks might give him his second wind. Lol

I know where to get good skunk baits and lures Bob, just dont sell out before I order some. Market will be gone before I came up with anything good. Look what happened to the coyote market to me. Lol

I still have some of Bobs Great baits for the Skunks. Reading all the reasons for why they are selling so good looks like a Kansas weather forcast. My collection last year was sort of a motley crew of the worst and best. If I slow down any more I will be backing up. I am , however, looking forward the FHA check.

He pointed out that this was the last chance for the year at a decent amount of skunks for the folks wanting them, so they paid up to ensure that they had enough for the year. He said don’t expect $80 averages in the country, but that it would still be very good.
It’s all about the quality of the tails. The more white on the tail the better.

That’s the guy.

Yep. Skunks will be down to $40 and we'll all scream like wounded banshees about how unfair the world is.

My prediction is to go after possums. There is going to be a Beverly Hillbillies Revival movement and everybody will have to have some. Can you say $80 possum? And then there's Granny's possum and grits....a secondary meat market.

Can someone remember to pull this thread up next year to see how close BP is with his 40$ skunk across the board prices.
I will scale it back to 8k in the auction and tough grading lowering the average to 15$uSD
and 10$ in the country with those buyers filling their orders

A trapper would have to be a fool to ship skunks if he can get a decent offer in the country.

A lot of skunks trading hands right now. Probably many more than what FHA offered.

Things here have evolved over the years most of my calls now are from people or other trappers with skunk they already caught just knowing I’ll come and take care of the skunks seems to give them confidence to set traps. Before the freeze out I’d get several calls a week to get the skunks picked up.

Our skunks run big some are huge compared to most other places so the skunks can pay well to very good depending on the time of the year I get them. A jumbo skunk with good stripes can bring more than the better yotes in past years. 1.5-2 oz of is a good start.

LD, I just bought 10 badgers from him a month ago put up, told him what I wanted and why, he had already tanned ones but I said I wanted to keep the price down as much as I could, for my own needs, he was acceptable to that and took the time to go through his last shipment of badgers from FHA

I was very happy with what he sent me, exactly what he said they would be, although others would not accept his cost, but I do being a buyer, everyone has to make something and I never squawked on his price. He was on the ball and shipped right away when I notified him of payment sent !

I had bought from him a couple years ago also on some silvers and blues for hats as well, great fur tanned and ranch grade !

I wonder what the buyers are going to do with them? Try & hook up and see if the guy paying the big $ wants em? The tourist/trinket buyers never got any this time around either.

The ones buying are probably buying for the end buyers $80 skunks would risky to speculate on for most buyer with no set buyer, just my take on it.

I agree with LD. I've seen a lot of country buyers at the western Assoc. sales talking on the phone. IMHO they're taking no risks.

They’ll pay what they’re worth to them. Probably not $80, but I’ll bet a fair price.

Dusty at Hough fur is actively buying skunks and is very fair to deal with.

He isn't paying 80 dollars though. If I had a skunk I'd sell it now.

The Jewish hat is called a shtreimel. They aren't cheap and I've been told they can run into the 10s of thousands of dollars.

Just curious..who the heck has raw skunk pelts in July? I would think everybody has sold what they have unless they're taking stuff out of the freezer and putting it up.
