According to google, possum will eat ticks they pick off themselves while grooming.

Summer ticks here look like they are carrying the possums around they have so many on them must be a bag lunch thing.

Yes, I've read the original study/experiment where they came up with this nonsense. It was incredibly, ridiculously flawed.
