Anyone buy a meat slicer lately? I am starting to look for one that will be used mainly to slice cheese blocks. Appreciate any suggestions

I bought a slicer but it's such a pain to clean I just slice by hand.

I only use my slicer when I have a lot to do. I mostly use it for cutting strips for jerky. It makes the width of the strips much more uniform than doing it by hand.

I have a large commercial slicer like one used in deli or stores. I was looking at slicers for some time before found it reasonable on MP. As stated above they can be a pain to clean. So I really only use mine when doing batches of sausage or cheese.
If your not doing a lot of cheese slicing you might consider a good mandolin or wire type slicer. If your looking for constant thicknesses.

A lot of the smaller electric slicers will even warn you they should not be used for cheese.
If you are sure you want a rotary slicers. Make sure it has all metal drive no plastic gears. Cheese is sticky like brake pads on slicers wheel. Cheap slicers you will tear the gears or drive belt out or burn motor.

I've had a couple different slicers. Both were cheaper models. First was a Wal-mart special, all plastic. It was difficult to get uniform slices and had a smaller blade. I have since upgraded to a Nesco 8.7" slicer. It works OK, I only get it out of I am cutting up a fair amount of meat. This one also isn't rigid enough. If you apply too much or too little pressure, your cuts will not be uniform (like a wedge). If you can find one, I'd look for a used Hobart (or similar) commercial slicer. I would not recommend any of the slicers I have owned.

I got a stainless steel commercial one from a state college auction, a guy bought it cheap and gave it to me. I recone they up grade or need to spend some money so they have auctions periodically. It works fabulous.

bought a vevor brand to cut my own lunch meat a few months ago. it's been a nice one to use.

I've got a small cheap one my son picked up at second hand....I used it for bacon...once...like said, a pain to clean, inconsistent slices, and I'll rarely, probably never, use it again, lol

It's wrapped up on a shelf in the shed if anyone wants it...free!, lol

Following, looking to upgrade, smoking lots of bacon, etc. Need quality slicer.

Slicing cheese even with a commercial slicer is not easy.If you want to do it however research which ones will work as most will not.They are gonna be expensive and you need to keep blade sharp.You can buy a lot of pre sliced cheese and prob. be further ahead with less headache.

Chefs Choice is a good option. Look on market place.
