I need to do some repairs on our cabin metal roof. What boot wear do you recommend to prevent slippage while on the 6/12 pitch roof. My Keen hiking boots are not the answer. I need more gripadge! What do you recommend?

Cougar paws are expensive but the best. A super soft soled running shoe is what I use but doing repairs you will be on your knees so consider robbing the foam from a couch. A little trick I picked up from some not so documented migrants.

At 6/12 you may be better off with a harness or set up with some well braced scaffolding.

I asked a guy who installs metal roofing what kind of foot wear they wear if they need todo a repair. He smiled and said “Mountain Dew”! Apparently, they spray any kind of soda on the roof and when it dries, it leaves a sticky residue. I’ve never tried it, it it might work!

I use a “chicken ladder” on roofs too steep to walk on.

I used to do TV antenna work. Did that or several years. Toward the end of that time an old fella showed me a different approach to do climb roofs. He took an aluminum extension ladder section and installed an axle to the top rung. then put 2 lawnmower wheels on that axle. Rolled it up the roof til wheels went over top.. Ladder laid flat on the roof and didn't slip.
He offered me use of it anytime I needed it. Never needed it.

I seen a mini documentary on one of the latest James Bond movies. They had a scene where cars were zooming around in a European city with stone type areas that were slick. To get grip and protect the stone , they sprayed the area with 9000 gallons of clear unflavored soda. Sticky for the chase scenes and protected the old stonework.

That foam trick works for hot shingles to

I wear whatever has the most tread worn off of them, more contact
I change shoes on the ladder, I don't wear my steep roof shoes on the ground

I haven't found a good one yet, was up on mine hosing out the gutters & fell off. Luckily it was on the one story side & I landed on my feet. Good thing is wife seen me go down & I haven't had to put up Christmas lights since.

I've always worn my Red Wing 402's on roofs. They have what they call a Supersole. I don't know what that is but they don't have much of a tread when knew and it wears off quickly.

The soles are soft and grip well on asphalt shingles, slate and shakes but nothing really grips well on steel. I'll walk on shingles up to a 9/12 but I'll be slipping and sliding on steel at a 6/12.

I wore crape (white soles) lace up boots when I was doing seamless gutter. Did lots of metal roofs (farm pole buildings) 30 years ago..
FYI 500 feet was the longest. FYI 2 Step on the screws
