What does the elimination of the $200 fed tax on suppressors mean to the average schmuck? Will there still be the onerous process of kissing the Feds butt to buy one or will it be an over the counter buy?

As currently written, full registration is still going to be required ... just won't cost ya the $200 tax.

Yup, it'll actually cost the feds to process the registration. As if it didn't already, maybe some bean counter can make the case for ending registration on that basis.

Well, $200 is a lot of ammo you won't hear going down range, LOL

I wonder, just how much could be saved if we ended all registration and licensing schemes. Lord knows the government drones that shuffle paperwork and stamp our licenses have got to be costing us a pretty penny.

Don't worry, the Congress will add it back in and send it back to the Senate

There is a case to be made that since NFA is a tax scheme and if there is no tax it has no standing and these must be removed from it. Ammo that can be used down the road.

In the flip side several states prohibit suppressors and they are only allowed if they have bee federally registered so in those states if they came off the nfa they may not be allowed.

Pennsylvania and Texas are two I think I heard people have that concern in.

That's why a Dem tried to keep it at $1.

BUT, when the pendulum swings, easy enough to jack it to $5,000, and beyond.

Needs to go away. Entirely.

The 2A stuff was the removal of suppressors and short barreled rifles and shotguns from the National Firearms Act and treating them the same as any other firearm, i.e., no registration or tax stamp just the 4473. This was included for two reasons. One to get our support and two because it couldn't pass the Senate as a stand-alone bill.

Apparently this was put back in when it went back to the house. Maybe we will get lucky and it stays this time. Notice the language that should help those in states where they are or would be prohibited added in.

I hope they get it in and keep it in. Rumblings on social media is that there are holdouts in the house that won't back it without it being put back in.

One thing that is fascinating to me is that it appears the internet is finally reaching what it was once predicted to be. The public square democratic process writ large. Trump on twitter now Truth, the number of senators and house members making the rounds of or having podcasts. There is a definite effect from social media on the legislative process.

SDCL 37-35-2 allows for SD residents to manufacture accessories that must remain in SD that are not subject to any Federal regulations and must be stamped made in SD on it. It sounds like we can build our own suppressors from the way it reads.

Should of just had it as a separate piece of legislation as it started out Hearing Protection Act

You wonder if it would of got much attention or consideration if put out there by itself it’s all about the games they play in DC.

Not sure about the $200 tax, but the process isn't what it used to be. Buddy got his can last week. He did paperwork on a Thursday and had his suppressor on his rifle Tue. My local shop says its a 48 hr process lately.
