Found this trail coming up from the creek yesterday while driving around the pasture with the wife looking at cows gonna go back and pop a camera on it . Thinking it's from a ole beaver that you see in the creek every now and then. Funny thing is on the section of creek I have access to you don't see any new dam building . Think he figured out it's just not worth it when the two adjacent properties are less of a headache

Armadillo would be my guess. Any tracks in the mud?

How far from next water? I see beaver do that all the time to go from pond to pond or over pond dam to putflow creek.

But coon, otter, and turtles will use those trails as well.

I've had luck hanging snares on them, staying within ten feet of water to stay legal. Coons and otter slip through or knock down beaver sized loops, mostly, snappers not so much but they aren't as bad to roam dry ground as they do channels with 330s.

Oh and mink will as well.

Up North here this type trail is common when coon are going to a constant food source.

The coon and opossums have trails like this going to my egg dump. The trails are for the most part very straight. They both will walk right into a baited box trap on the trails. There's no sport to catching them at all on the trails.

I never found a trail in my life only used by one species. Maybe a predominate critter or critters, but I doubt one species.

if that were in southern WI I would say coon trail
of course 1 in 10 catches will be a possum or skunk so they are all using it but mostly coon
