Hey folks. Was out driving around crown (public) land the other day scouting around looking for a spot, and I found a goldmine of coyote tracks. I'm not really sure if there may be younger pups or if i'm looking at bobcat tracks?

All second growth forest semi managed. some brushy chopping areas mixed with open stands of timber.

one bigger scat (just a big coyote scat?)

and also one spot where it looks like something was pawing out around a brush clump, from a couple sides, and a small scat in there. any idea what you guys think may have done this, left the scat there?

I was hoping it was bobcat. Tons of coyotes there I didn't bother posting because it was obvious. Happy to see those are all bobcats though. lots of sign and a partridge taken not far. I will try to make some boxes for them and hang a wing off to the side. I think I will have to run a lot of grapples for these coyotes so people don't steal my coyotes (if I can manage to get one.)

Any advice on trapping cats for foot holds? what size coil spring, what bait/lure, what set etc.

Should I use 160 or 220 conibears for boxes?

That happens a bit over here. Lot of pogey bums on boats but also lots of hard workers. Constant fights between regular fisherman and native fisherman last couple years. boats burning, traps cut, violence ensues. It's a bit nutty on the ocean. I prefer the forest.

Cats are not spooky like coyotes. The number one thing is to make a set right where they are going.

Okay, i'll try and see if the road or trail he's taking bottlenecks somewhere and I can grab him this fall.

It's just canines you wear gloves to cover scent for or just a good idea in general?

I wear gloves to set cause of digging beds and holes. Protect my hands. I take them off to bait and lure. Set on those tracks and droppings.
