Is anyone on here fishing in Bristol Bay this year? I bought fresh sockeye yesterday at Costco for $16.99/lb. Wondered what the fishermen were getting.

Yep. The producer doesn't control the market. And we really have no way of boycotting prices, and little control over demand.
Trappers lost a lot of ground in the 80's, as for demand. The anti's had a bankroll, trapping organizations didn't, and the anti-trapping campaign spent freely.
The results were diminished demand for our product, fashion changes, and a consolidation of buyers. The mini-booms for certain species are now short-lived, and usually leave whatever was hot a couple years ago looking for buyers at a fraction of what it sold for previously.

Fresh Copper River Reds on sale at Fred Meyers in Fairbanks, $30 pound for fillets. Same fish dropped off at the buyer less than $2 pound.

My halibut buyer sent some to LA recently. This is what his guy sent after. I’d like to know what is in the back for $65 lb [Linked Image]
Crazy.

About 2 months ago I was in Santa Barbara and stopped in at an upscale grocery store. My eyes nearly fell out of my head when I saw halibut for $79.00 a pound, and Alaska Chinook at $69.00 a pound!

Another perspective from Montana.Sockeye fillets are $10 a lb.I did pay close to $20 for a couple Halibut fillets because I needed them but forget them ripping me off again. Now remember also the fisherman are getting $2 a lb say but that is for whole unprocessed fish. Also NEVER buy fish and fresh meat from Costco .They give people the impression they are so cheap but really their client base is most stupid city folks that have no idea about life.
