No, i did not find this today but going through some finds i thought i'd post a couple of pics. Have found a lot of interesting things over the years of detecting and not just coins. I can't find much on this coin though and copper doesn't fare to well in certain soils.

Cool! I'm thinkin bout that hobbie.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

trap, that's the same coin. It's kinda hard to tell as my flip phone is limited with pictures, lol. Catch, It's a great hobby, been doing it since i was in high school, late 70's. I'm pretty much a spring and fall hunter any more as the heat and dry ground is a killer.

Blee, that's awesome! Could you recommend a metal detector for a newbie like me?

A good do it all detector that won't break the bank right now is the minelab xterra elite. It has multi frequency that will get the deep coins and jewelry on grass, parks and such. It also lets you switch to a single freq. that works a lot better in the plowed fields in old homesteads full of old iron. It's a minelab equinox without all the bells and whistles that you don't use much anyways.

Neat action!! I wonder what the oldest coins a person would find in South Dakota? Probably nothing from the first half of the 1800s. It would be fun to see how much 90% silver U.S. coins could be found.

What is your current detecting device?

That's the one Keith, boy do i have some stuff that would keep you busy for awhile. PCfed, you'd be surprised at what's in the ground. I find a lot of civil war items here in Ohio. I have some war of 1812 and at least one rev. button. I hunt on grass for the silver and jewelry which i have a couple of minelab vanquish detectors for that. But in the woods and field hunting i use either a minelab xterra pro or elite. I've hunted some in Ky and TX. Always dragging stuff home.

Great coin Blee, my oldest with a date is 1787 Fugio. I think my oldest ever is a KGII, but pretty toasted.

Brian, the fugio is a bucket lister for me, nice coin. The Kgs i have are pretty toasty.
Bob, the earliest US mint coins i've found is a 1797 Large cent, pretty much the same size as the foreign coins. I get a few reales and half reales and other odds and ends.

Here's another foreign coin i'm assuming. Maybe Keith can id this one also.

That's fascinating. I guess with Lake Erie, the Ohio River, more was going on then I thought. Never thought Ohio would hold a lot of foreign currency.
