I can relate two conversations I’ve had with lure & bait manufacturers, one very close to this site. One person advised me to freeze his bait (i’d received in summer) because of the chance it would mold. The 2nd conversation was with O’Gorman’s wife who made Coyote Creek Bait which was my favorite for many years. I had a couple partial jars and a couple unopened jars and I told her I kept them all in the freezer except during trapping season. Would they still be good and did I need to add something to them to jack up their potency? Her comment was “perfect, keep doing exactly what you’re doing and the bait will last and stay potent for years kept in those conditions”!!!! Good enough for me1

Well built lures, baits and clean urines will not need any special care. Other then keeping them in an area near and around room temperature and avoid excess heat, they will keep indefinitely.

Keep the lids and caps in reasonable condition to prevent the material from getting excess air flow. Air will dehydrate the material and cause some discoloration.

I keep my beaver meat in the freezer, and my wolf pudding, because they don't have preservatives (the wolf pudding has glycerin so it doesn't really freeze hard, but no real preservatives ). My lures both bought and homemade are preserved and are kept in the back room of the shop that stays in the sixties all year. Urine is kept the same place. Never had a problem.
