That's a sausage fest of bucks, that would make good sausage.

What he isn’t telling you, is that our whole peninsula is a food plot. Dang deer can’t turn around without food going in their mouths.

Stop over cooking your meat! It isn’t gamey, it’s over cooked!

Gordon Ramsey, maybe…

lol

I planted one and it’s just starting to come up. Trying to keep them off it til it’s established. Gonna go broke on corn and mineral.

Modern farming leaves very little corn or bean residue in the fields around here. Once the rut is over and the snow is falling along with the temps, deer seek calories here. If they are not in your plot, they will be in the neighbors. Just like trapping it become a location thing, if you can combine food and security cover on one property the deer will adapt.

I doubt you have a lick more agriculture than we do here, but its still more enjoyable to put in food plots and provide some variety. Plant what the local farmers dont and youll draw deer.

We don't plant our food plots until August. No reason to feed those deer until hunting season.

Pretty much accurate^^^^

Only a few people have enough money to change the nutritional plane of their local deer. That would take 10% or more of a larger land area planted/maintained in quality forage. This is obviously very expensive and would involve a large tract of land to have any noticeable effect.

But, small scale plantings do help individual doe family groups and help hold summer bachelor groups of bucks in a smaller area.

Overall, summer and fall food plots probably do more for the hunter's/land manager's ego than anything else. I really like to see the wildlife utilizing something I planted.

On most properties, fall plots should be set up/planted for deer killing purposes.

I like watching stuff grow! And I like to see utilization of things I grow from either people or animals. It’s just fun for me to put seeds in the dirt and come back every week or two and see what they are doing

I still do a few stand alone plots but what works better for me is sweetening up corners, pockets and edges of wheat fields where I have permanent stands. I'm already working the ground and the deer will already be there. I broadcast a fall mix made by a local company, lightly cover and call it good.

Bale it with the rest the next summer. It seems to make a positive difference.
