my snares caught nothin, so I bought a havahart single door cage trap. what bait should I use to lure the squirrel?

i would suggest wiring the trap open and feed the squirrel for about a week so the animal gains confidence then remove the wire you should have him the next check

very interesting, I will try that. it is very easy to remove the trapping door on this model. I am using dry corn and sunflower seeds embedded in peanut butter as bait.
afraid I will be getting a lot of chipmunk,

i wouldnt monkey with the structure of the cage just use a piece of wire to hold the door from firing and pay attention to how often your bait is gone once you see that its been eaten regulary then remove the wire and set a lite trigger chipmunks usually stay near the ground you could always bungee the cage to a limb or use a ratchet strap just make sure the trap will still fire good luck

I would not prebait the trap. Once it enters the trap you catch it, not give it a free meal.
