I have a pond I would love to airate or pump fresh water into
Without having power ran to it. Does anybody have experience with battery operated or solor powered pumps
Or airators? I was think about building an insulated space for batteries in the winter if I needed to if I used lithium batteries.

In the Sandhills windmills are being phased out and being replaced by solar panels that power a submersible pump instead of depending on the wind to blow. It seems to be well accepted.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

I don't know anyone who has a battery operated one, but a couple farmers I worked with in the past had windmill operated ones and one had a solar operated one. These were for small ponds like .5 to 1 acre so not a real big area. Fish did stay alive in them. a propblem with many small ponds is that they are located in low spots and thus many are wind protected and harder to get any wave action etc. during the open water times as well.

Local pond in town has 3 solar aerators on it. They aerate only small areas in the pond. They produce bubbles from below not spray water in the air.

NRCS has specs out for solar powered pumps. Put in several in North Dakota 10 years ago for grazing systems. I put in 3 solar powered aerators here on Whiteman AFB. They are submerged and only operate like big air stones - don't move water.

I had a solar pump installed in a well we had dug. (2000 ft deep) It supplys water to a pond and we irrigate the pastures. Works great. Also have an airator with a seperate solar generator to run it, some other pumps and solar generators for each one, outflow ,return stuff like that

This is what I am interested in.
How did they handle in the winter time

The well we don't run in the winter, but if we needed it would be fine. Just finally got things straightened out on the pond recently, was three years in the making, first guy I hired left mr=e with a big hole that didn't hold water so next I had to hire a pond specialist out of Bozeman who reworked it added a liner and now it's doing fine so this spring I finaly start adding life to it, so last winter nothing was on . This winter I will have an insulated cover for the solar generator to power the airator so that will be on, won't need to pump from the well. Going to be having lots of fun with this pond just an on going play project with the landscaping and grow some big bluegill and brook trout, starting with the prey base now. Freshwater shrimps of a few varietys, they are for aquairiums but why not a pond? And I've dumped about a hundred or so fat head minnows, next I'll start getting some fish
