RCBS 500 Mechanical... weighs to .1 grains... use a teaspoon to "trickle" in the powder... slow, but works.

The zeros right of the decimal point beyond a tenth on digital scale are really meaningless unless ur spending alot of money on a digital scale. Like 4 figures. Most scales under 500 are doing pretty good to be within +/- 0.05 of a grain no matter how many zeros after the decimal point. They just are there as selling points. Good news is Prs doesn't require really accurate powder measurements. Ive got 2 Rcbs charge masters and there's ways to make them better but I wouldn't call them real accurate. But with that said if the gun can shoot it they will load ammo that will shoot half moa or better.

I inherited it thataway. Still quite a learning experience.

When I zero my RCBS balance beam and put a stamp sized piece of paper on it, it moves off zero. Moves a good bit in fact. Thats good enough for me.

If he is set on a true balance beam type, look around for an Ohaus (sp). I have an old rcbs that was made by them that is far superior to anything new in my opinion. The real question is how much does he want to spend. Most of the fellas around here that are serious about shooting seem to run multiple digital autotricklers at the same time to aid in production and still have very accurate loads. I enjoy the process of hand loading, I love getting “lost” for a couple hours and knocking out a bunch of loads. Have fun fellas, and congrats on having your boy back home with ya!!

I know you get what you pay for, so, since he is the one paying I dont mind that one bit. The loads I have developed are tested out to 880 yards. They are far more accurate that I am on my best day. my best groups were 5" in 5 shot groups. thats good enough for me. not sure if he can improve much on the load recipes I have for the 6.5 CM. He has a 6mm Seekings barrel that he is looking to get on an action but I am not sure what action he has settled on but I know what chassis he has. Optic will be a behemoth Zero Tolerance 8x32 and the tube on that rascal is larger than our 34mm tubes on our NF's, Vortex Razors and a new Leupold mark something.

I dont know how far they shoot in these matches but dang. I think my son is going overkill on all of his stuff.

I use a cheap Lee scale, no electronics.
My t.20 barrel has given me .250" groups at 100 yds, all three bullets in one hole
