Alright got another one for you, got five hens one male and from my understanding these girls should be topping out at one egg per day. We've routinely been getting 7-8 a day . Any reason this could be happening? Odd thing is we seem to get the big clutches like that right after we move them to new grass. Only thing I figured is because they're still kinda young so there able to pop more out ?
Trend is looking like
Move to new grass : 7-8 eggs
Next day : 4-6
Next day : 3-5
Move to grass :7-8

Maybe it's one of those deals like happy cows make more milk laugh also is it not for birds to drop eggs are certain times ? Seems they never lay till about 5p.m ( yes we've been kinda keeping track :D)

Anyhow just curious

When coturnix quail are at their peak laying age of around 2 to 8 months old, they can lay about every 18 hours, under ideal conditions. They mostly lay about 1 egg a day, but can lay a little more. Your coturnix are well taken care of and are probably cycling together. On the days you get over 1 egg per hen, are the eggs slightly smaller?

Not that I can really notice, I do notice in larger clutch days the tend to look a little blue in color but there all usually about the same size, think we've had like ...three so called " pixie" eggs in the last 4 dozen they laid but that's about it

Sounds to me like you increase their inputs (new fresh grazing / bugs) and see a corresponding increase in their output (more eggs). It implies that you could make the tractor bigger or move it more often and keep your average egg count per day up higher but I'm just guessing.
