Question is mainly for bp but all other knowledgeable answers are welcome.

Raspberries are growing the best they have ever grown. Lots of blooms. But as of late some of the ends of the branches have started dying. Looks very similar to fire blight on apple trees.

Been really wet and really hot here lately.

Any info?

bow, unfortunately, it sounds like phytophytora root rot of raspberries. The main clues you gave being wet, warm soil which favors the disease.

There is no cure. The canes will slowly peter out. Can't grow razz in the same spot ever again so replanting is out for the spot.

If you still get good full sized berries out of them this year the diagnosis may be wrong. Being as roots are infected berry size and quality should suffer which will help nail the diagnosis.

If its one plant here and there it might be a Raspberry cane borer.

I get these, just break off the segment and get rid of the grub is all you can do.

Good response Dirty. Hopefully it is borers which are easily controlled as described.

Raspberry canes that produced fruit this year, which are similar to the wild type, should be dying back now as next year's fruit bearing canes become more woody. Everbearers and Fall bearers shouldn't be doing that. What type of raspberry bushes do you have?

You haven't harvested the berries yet right?
I know after you harvest the fruit bearing canes will die, they need to be removed then

With raspberries you will either have primocane bearers (aka fall raspberries) or floricane bearers (summer raspberries). The floricane bearers will have the fruiting canes die back to the ground in the fall and the new sucker canes are trellised for next years crop. The primocane bearers will fruit on overwinter canes in the early summer but also the new canes coming up will produce a fall crop.

Commercial growers mow these down in the late fall and go completely for the late summer-fall crop.
