I aim for getting a lab every five years. Yeah, a lot of the time I have three of them but I'm good with that even if the wife isn't (all my dogs are inside dogs).

With the five year plan I always have one experienced hunter in prime physical condition, usually have one that's experienced but slowing down and a youngster learning from both of them.
