Dug around in the fur freezer the other day found 6 skunks put them up in the heat with the door closed to avoid the flies to my surprise not much for flies this year but the heat was difficult to work in. I trimmed the fat and saved the skulls so it takes longer than it normally would but I needed some more sun rendered skunk oil to add to a batch I have started already.
Put them in the fur shed under a couple box fans to keep them cool and the bugs away. Boxed them up sent them off to Dusty at Hough Furs in MN. Sold them for 3@ $60 and 3@ $40 so $300 for 6 skunks total I’ll take that any day for 6 skunks.

We have a decent skunk here but a couple of the $40 were pretty average I’m not 100% sure what they are looking for 100% really. I have 2 tails to scrape and dry will see how they do.
First time I’ve regretted having developed my own markets for everything skunk or my freezer would have been packed. LOL

If you talk to Dusty again. I'd like to know his opinion of what they're looking for to bring top dollar. On other threads white tails were mentioned

That’s great Jerry! I guess I better go dig around in my freezer, I’m pretty sure there’s at least two skunks in there.
Eh...wot?

I have a smelly skunk freezer and a not smelly freezer that gets the good ones that don’t stink if I put a nice one in the stink freezer it’s going to stink coming out of it.
I did a civet for a furbearer collection guy that helped out on my last elk hunting trip. It stunk bad I got it from another guy but I don’t go after them now but keep incidentals and get some from folks that won’t mess with them. Tried the peroxide, baking soda and Dawn mix it did a good job it sure foamed up a lot.

Glad you had good experience with Dusty and did as well as you did. He's knowledgeable and not afraid to share information with others. I'll be doing more business with him in the future.
