I was outside walking around checking the gardens, etc. Walked toward the front yard and saw something going on out in the driveway. Looked like something rolling around. When I got closer I realized it was a little mink and he had a littler rabbit by the neck. Seemed like an odd situation because there was a bunch of sparrows hanging around like they were watching the show. I got closer and the mink took off carrying the rabbit and he went down into the culvert under the drive. I wished I had a camera handy.

Not sure. A lot of the ditches have been filled in through the years but ours and the ones by the resort are still there and have culverts. I think he has an established and protective route from the slough right up to our place.

He might have to learn that old Moosetrot has a soft spot in his heart to baby rabbits.....

Doubt it. We had one as a pet when I was little...until in a very short time he turned into the meanest little critter we ever had. A friend of my Dad's came over to take him and when he picked up the cage it chewed up his fingers pretty good.

Back when I was a kid an old tree come down and out tumbled all these little 'coon. Us river kids each grabbed one and took it home. We had it litter trained and lived in the basement for quite awhile. One day it snuck upstairs and tore Mom's drapes down in the living room. Rascal got a ride to the end of the road down there where Don and Martha live now and the last we saw of him he was headed for the bottoms.

Maybe that soft spot for the rabbit will go away when they get in those gardens? I know I was ticketed pink when my rabbitt population improved on the farm after we started trapping. Loved seeing them everywhere. UNTILL I was planting and replanting multiple time when they found the garden. Now they get shot when in the yard. They were fine tell they cost me time and money.
