Speed dip is your best choice for that IMO. I do 2 - 3 coats of it will do the best job. I made a dip / roll over pan for all my cage traps.

I got some duct work and bent it to the size I wanted with a drain tap fixed on one end so I can drain off the excess when I am done. I put it back in a bucket and seal it until next time. I get many years of protection on all my cage traps.

The bottom half of the trap is what needs the most protection.
