Reminded me a little of my gifting of a couple of 220 BMI's to Indians in the Amazon basin. You should have seen their faces when I showed what it did to a stick I poked in there. They immediately saw immense opportunity for trapping all the delicious jungle rodents that run around out there.

Can't tell you how much I love stuff like this ! I've seen some.where there making fun of these people calling them backwards and stuff but stuff like this, smiles and healthy enjoyment by all smile often time I really do wonder what folks like these could accomplish with stuff we'd consider outdated and or obsolete! Like I love watching to videos where guys in Afghanistan or something do some pretty complex machining with basic lathes and the like . Shoot wonder what would happen if you gave these fella a old bear recurve or just a old compound bow with a fist full of modern arrows

Atta boy Savell. You no longer suck. LOL

Wolfie, the back story to that was I spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer on the equator in the Amazon jungle. I had Quichua Indians working for me in a tree nursery and became very friendly with one of them and his family. Vicente was a heck of a woodsman and always amazed me with his snares and trip loaded 16 ga shotguns. So when I went back a couple of years after getting out I brought a couple of 220 BMI's in my suitcase and gifted them to him and his son. Their diet was mainly yuca root supplemented with wild game protein. There is a jungle rat that makes neat little trails through vegetation to find palm fruits, etc. It weighs in around 10-15 lbs and is fantastic eating. Has a rind like a pig and has tender pink meat. They call them "Guanta" which I think would be "Agouti" in english.

Anyway, when I showed Vicente and his son how that little body gripper works (after I supported it and then ran a big stick through it) they immediately got the drift about what a wonderful little meat producer that was going to be. Their faces when that trap snapped on the stick made me think of the OP's video of the Africans watching that compound bow work.

A few years later I was back there again. The traps had eventually been lost but they had worked great for quite a long time and I was regaled with all the different species that had been caught over time.
