Hello. Wondering if anyone has bought brand new lately and if the dealership came down from MSRP much. Not looking for information on buying used, dealerships are horrible, save your money, etc. Have bought several used. This purchase will be new. Looking at Mazda. Thank you for your time.

a few months back I called to get the price on a new van for my wife they quit making a caravan so I asked about 4x4 1500 extended cab and was told 47,500. that included a 15k rebate.

I have been seeing places saying they are not moving and lots backing up. Sounds right if they were offering rebates or 15k discounts.

Sales tax and licensing is the deal breaker on new.

TurkeyTime ,

Current numbers out there show Mazda with very full inventories.
Do a search for ' days of inventory, cars '

Days of inventory mean how many vehicles are waiting to be sold / the amount of cars being sold every day.

Fast selling cars like Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas they have about a 28 day supply. More average sold cars have a 60 - 70 day supply

Mazda fastest selling model of car is at a 117 day supply. Their slowest selling model is at 165 day supply. There is a glut of them. Good chance to get a deal.

Don't let any dealer tell you they are in short supply.

I haven't bought a new one since 2020, but when I did it was extremely helpful to look at a forum specifically for that model (Tacoma). There was a price thread on tacomaworld with people posting their pricing info. You should ignore any info including tradeins because with trades they can move money around and make part of it look good. In 2020 after looking at that thread a while I had a good sense of what was a excellent/good/ok/bad price on a new Tacoma with the options I wanted. I was looking for a very specific combo so when I got to a good (but not excellent) price, I took it.

You really need to find info specific to the exact model you're looking at.

in '20 I made one trip to a local dealer to see something close to what I wanted and confirm I knew what I wanted. But they wouldn't deal. My second trip to a dealer was a month or two later driving 3h to pick up my truck.

I've never paid MSRP, always lower, sometimes much lower.

My Tundra before this current one was new but a leftover (previous year's model). I got it for $8,000.00 under MSRP. It helped a lot that Toyota was offering a $4,000.00 rebate on leftovers at the time. The dealer wasn't going to tell me. I don't blame him, an uneducated consumer is their best friend.

I waited until the end of our dickering session, had already chewed him down $4,000.00 under MSRP, then asked him about the rebate. At that point he had to give it to me.

The point being, do your homework, research the heck out of whatever new vehicle you're planning on buying.

Eh...wot?

Had to replace my daughter’s mustang after an idiot ran a red light and totaled it. Purchased a new bronco sport for her and the dealership I deal with came off msrp significantly. Eric

Just bought a new Frontier mid level truck so many things to look out for, if they can stick it to you on the truck and financing they will do it with a smile. Lots of good info on YouTube do your research it’s out there compare reviews as many as you can. Engine/trans dependable, ride and quality reports. Figure if your states charges tax on rebates paying tax on a huge rebate could add up fast. Look for last years models often way lower prices on them making them practical.

The salespeople will lie to you with a smile then try to guilt you into items you don’t need or want look for add on junk that sound strange and is over priced. Strobe “safety” 3rd brake lights $300 with a bunch of fake statistics that cost them under $100 crappy floor mats and mud guards are 2X what the good ones are. Nissan wanted $450 for mats and guards I said keep them I don’t want them I got them free on the deal for the price I wanted to pay.

If somethings shady tell them that I had my salesman about crying he was so mad I kept calling him out on his BS. I finished the deal with his sales manager after the guy lost it and told me to lose his number, “the first one to get mad loses”. LOL

Start here, search online for the vehicle you think you want look at the options you want and don’t want locate a vehicle, look over the sticker price also look for added junk the dealer try’s to add on like paint protection and other warranties. Check if early payoff has a penalty if you’re plunking down cash they hate cash but push you to finance at high rates to get rebates for financing it’s nasty BS. Deal on the out the door price if not they will nickel dime you out the door don’t play their games. Don’t be afraid to walk at anytime for any reason that often gets you a better deal. If they don’t drop on MSRP walk! They will call you with a better offer to consider the repeat step one over.

My friend just priced a new Tacoma. 2500 off. He doesn't haggle so might be even more off if pursued.

Keep in mind the dealership will try to get over on you at every step of the way so pay attention the MSRP, finance, add on, trade in they do this for a living. If you leave the dealership and everyone is happy you probably got shafted maybe more than just once.

Traded in a 2018 Off Road Tacoma 92,000 miles on it with a few minor issues a crack in windshield, tire sensor but clean so it was considered in very good shape downgraded from excellent in the Kelly Blue book. During the deal they tried to bring up those need repairs to give me less for my trade in. I said you already downgraded it to very good now you want to take off again for the same things. That’s the stuff they try to pull while smiling all of the time they cannot be trusted to be honest.

Have an out the door price in your head on everything or they will razzle dazzle you during the deal to get over on you and keep you confused. YouTube has dealing with dealerships videos that point out the pitfalls and the crooked stuff they like to pull.
